The Full Story
Luqmanul Hakim began his musical journey at the age of nine, initially studying the recorder as part of Malaysia’s national school syllabus. By twelve, influenced by his brother—a bassist in a heavy metal band—and his father, a guitarist and vocalist, he took up the guitar. His early exposure to diverse instruments paved the way for a deeper musical exploration.
At thirteen, Luqmanul joined the St. John’s Institution marching band, performing on the Great Highland Bagpipes. At sixteen, he transitioned to the saxophone, receiving foundational training from renowned Malaysian jazz musician Razak Rahman before advancing through self-directed study.
As a multi-instrumentalist, recording artist, performer, and educator, Luqmanul has further refined his artistry under the mentorship of distinguished musicians Eddie Kismilardy and Jaafar Idris @ JARI, specializing in jazz performance and improvisation. In 2021, he earned a diploma in music performance from the National Academy of Arts Culture & Heritage.
Luqmanul has performed at prestigious venues including Bukit Jalil National Stadium and SCAPE Theatre in Singapore. He is a touring musician for Malaysian indie rock band Midnight Fusic and a core member of the music collective Note/Void, contributing as a composer and performer of original works.
Currently, Luqmanul serves as an Academic Coordinator and educator at OUCH Music Academy, where he continues to expand his expertise across drums, clarinet, flute, and other instruments, dedicated to fostering musical excellence and innovation.
